The origin of the Geidai Collection dates back from 1880fs, when the Meiji government was establishing the Tokyo Fine Arts School, the predecessor of the Geidai and the first national school of fine arts. Various works collected for educational purpose and the selected works by students and teachers have formed the Collection up until today. This exhibition shows the excellent pieces of Japanese painting, oil painting, sculpture and crafts which were executed or collected in the early days of the School.
